Introducing the IHS Digest, a round-up of all that’s filling my cup. Twice a month, I’ll share recent discoveries and finds that have wowed me, moments that I’ve been particularly grateful for, and the things to come that I’m looking forward to. This is my little way of taking pause and delighting in the every day – hope you enjoy!
Recent Discoveries That Have Me Like 🤩
The best cookie for beating the winter doldrums: these browned butter snickerdoodles might be the best cookies I’ve ever made. Thicc and fluffy as can be, and deliciously nutty thanks to the browned butter, these babies are IT. My dad and I polished off half the batch before they even had the chance to properly cool.
The Sunday crossword of 2022: let’s be honest, I can’t call this a true find since she’s as famous as Omicron this January. Are you playing? Do you have a Wordle word? I’d like to be the kind of person who does, but I usually just go with the first word that pops up in my brain.
A Korean drama that I can’t stop thinking about: I know, I’m sorry I can’t shut up about this one. The Red Sleeve is a period piece about a king and a court lady from the Joseon Dynasty, based on a true story. The writing is nuanced and thoughtful, but what makes it truly unforgettable is the soundtrack, cinematography, pacing, and THE ACTING HOLY HECK. Haven’t been this delighted by a K-drama since Crash Landing On You.
An after-dinner treat I look forward to all day: I received a bar of Hu’s Salty Dark chocolate in a snack box from work, and am now h o o k e d. Perfect sweet-and-salty treat to end the day.
A juicy Greek tale, re-told: again, this one’s an oldie but goodie. It’s been my favorite read so far in 2022, a fun one to get stuck into on a rainy weekend.
What Has Me Like 🙏🏻
- Some health results that came back with good news – nothing more important.
- Long FaceTime dates with my niece and nephew. This doesn’t happen often because their attention spans are non-existent right now, but when it does… gosh, it makes me so happy.
- I can’t remember the last time I slept without an alarm. I will set one even for naps because I don’t trust myself not to zonk out for hours on hours. Last weekend, I decided to just sleep alarm-less because why not, and it was glorious.
On The Horizon ⚡
- Think I’m going to try to make these peanut butter cookies this weekend, but I might also opt for a banana-oat muffin situation. I’ll report back.
- I fully credit Scribd with how I’ve been able to re-discover my love of reading. But it does have a somewhat limited catalog of books, and once in awhile all the books I’ve saved become unavailable for a week or two. These windows will now be my green-light to buy a more recent release or something I’ve been meaning to read. First up is The Midnight Library – excited to dive into this one!
